3 Reasons to Cut Sugar From Your Diet

Donna Sergi • November 26, 2018

Sugar isn’t as sweet as you think. It causes all sorts of health-related symptoms that you need to know about. These are some of the big ones:

Irregular Menstrual Cycle

A diet that’s low in nutrients but high in stimulants like white sugar and refined flours can affect your thyroid and throw your cycle off. Look for foods that are high in antioxidants like berries, kale, and beans instead.

High Blood Pressure

Eating too much sugar increases insulin levels, causing an immediate sugar high. That reduces the sensitivity of the receptors that regulate our blood pressure. It also depletes our cells’ energy stores, which can lead to constricted blood vessels and increased pressure.

Mood Swings

Because it decreases stores of natural emotionally balancing chemicals, too much sugar can lead to irritability, anxiety, and mood swings. Foods like green vegetables, oily fish, and fermented foods can help balance your emotions.

Try cutting processed sugar from your diet for a few weeks and take note of how you feel. The first few days may be hard, but I promise you’ll notice some big, positive changes real fast.
